Know your users

To be successful in business you need to take your user’s perspective. This means seeing through the eyes of the people you have to delight if you want good outcomes from your work.

Many organisations (though not all) do recognise the importance of customers (i.e. those who give you money). But many organisations pay little attention to other groups of people who can influence those outcomes (ex. shareholders, staff, regulators, non-customers, communities).

Get to know who your users are by answering these two questions:

  1. What’s your AIM? (i.e. what does your team/organisation aim to achieve?)
  2. WHY should anyone else care about this ? (i.e. what’s in it for them?)

Write down all the groups you can think of and answer “what’s in it for them”. Now start focusing on what you need to do to satisfy your users and have a successful business. You’ll be surprised at the results.

If you’d like some guidance for doing this request our FREE ‘Getting Started with Real-Time Strategy’ workbook, here.
